Saturday morning
The house was unusually silent.
For two whole days, the Namjin family had gone out — Suga and Jimin to attend a university conference, Hobi to a school camp, and NamJin to a short business-plus-relaxation retreat.
Only Tae and Kookie were home.
Tae sat on the living room sofa, flipping through his art journal. The morning sun filtered in gently, and the house had the peaceful stillness of a lazy Saturday.
“Bunny is still sleeping?” he muttered to himself, glancing at the clock.
8:45 AM.
He chuckled.
“Bunny ko sote hue dekhkar hi pata chalta hai… she’s still a baby.”
He didn’t expect the peace to last.
And he was right.
Because one minute later—
A scream echoed through the whole house.
“TAAAAEEEETEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”
The scream was so loud Tae dropped his journal.
“Bunny?” He bolted toward the hallway. “Bunny?! Kya hua?!”
Another scream.
This time higher pitched.
“TTTTEEEEETTTTEEEE— I’M DYYYYYYIIIINNNGG—!”
Tae’s heart nearly stopped.
He sprinted through the hall, slammed into the wall, recovered, and burst into Kookie’s room.
“Koo—!”
He froze mid-sentence.
There she was — tiny 14-year-old Kookie — standing in the middle of her room in her oversized bunny-print nightshirt, trembling like a leaf, pointing with shaking hands at her bedsheet.
“TETE… mujhe koi badi bimari ho gayi…” she whispered, eyes wide with terror.
“Tete… there’s blood… on our bed… I think… I think I’m dying—”
Tae blinked.
He blinked twice.
“Oh… ohhhh.”
Understanding dawned.
Of course.
Bunny got her first period.
But the tiny girl in front of him looked seconds away from passing out.
“TeTe… mera khoon nikal raha hai…” she squeaked.
Voice cracking.
Eyes filling with tears.
“and my stomach is paining very much… is this how people die?!”
Tae rushed forward, gently cupping her cheeks.
“Kookie, bunny, meri jaan… no no no, you're not dying!”
He laughed softly, relieved beyond measure.
“Yeh bilkul normal hai. You’re okay. You’re absolutely okay.”
Kookie wasn’t convinced.
“Normal?! Tete, blood is literally everywhere! Bed pe! Clothes pe! Bathroom floor pe! Mujhse galti se toilet seat bhi red ho gaya!” she wailed.
Tae pinched the bridge of his nose lovingly.
“Aur main soch raha tha aaj ki morning peaceful hogi…”
Then he smiled.
“Come here, choti disaster.”
He wrapped her in a big, protective hug.
Kookie sniffed loudly into his shirt.
“Tete… what is happening to me…? Am I… broken?”
Tae rubbed her head, guiding her to sit on the edge of the bed.
“Bunny… yeh tumhare growing up ka part hai. Its periods....
Periods....?? Kaun se wale English hindi maths waale....?? Jo school mei hote hai... Asked innocently.... Confused....
He giggled," Nhi mera bachcha.... Voh wale periods nhi.... Its your body periods.... Means menstrual cycle...." Said while pulling her cheeks
"Kya....?? Menscrual cycle..... Yeh itna difficult naam hai.... Bola bhi nhi jata....kya yeh koi nayi beemari Hui hai mujhe....??" Asked eyes wide and with confusing expression
Nhi mera bchcha.... yeh koi beemari nhi hai.... Its normal babu..... Every girl gets her periods.... Jimin di got them. Mumma got them. Every woman/girl in the world has them.”
Her eyes widened.
“Even Jimin di?!”
Tae nodded, amused.
“Yes, baby.”
“Even Mumma?!”
“Yes, bunny.”
She gasped dramatically.
“Mujhe laga unhe kabhi nahi hota… Mumma is too perfect…”
Tae burst into laughter.
“Kookie, it’s normal! It means that now you're grown up.... Mtlb now you have unique power to reproduce a baby. It means you’re healthy. Safe. Growing.”
"What....?? Power....?? Baby....?? Mai kaise baby paida krskti hoo.... Abhi toh mai khud baby hoo...."
"Listen bunny carefully..... You know na hum sb mumma ke tummy se bahar aaye hai...."
She nodded in yes....
"Toh tummy ke ander kaise gye voh pta hai...??"
She nodded in NO.....
"Ok.... Mai btata hoo.... Now listen....."
"Aapko pta hai bhagwaan ji ne na aap girls ko ek unique power di hai baby paida krne ki.... Kyuki god ko pta hai aap girls bhut strong hoti ho.... Toh yeh kaam sirf aap girls hi krskti ho...."
"Voh kaise....??"
"Jb aap apne puberty mei jaati ho na.... Mtlb jb aap 10-15 years ke hote ho tb uss time your body gets prepared.... Aur usi according aapko aapke periods start hote hai.... "
"Mtlb abtk meri body prepared hi nhi thi....??"
"Thi... But babies ke liye nhi...."
"Ohh...."
"Now listen.... Jb aap puberty mei jaate ho tb aapki body mei jo aapka uterus wala part hota hai... Mtlb aapke tummy wala part..." He explained while showing her by live demonstration from pics and even by showing her from her own body area.... While she carefully listened like an obedient child
"Vha pr eggs form hote hai.... "
"Eggs...?? Mai murgi thodi hoo.... Mai toh bachchi hoo na.... Mere tummy mei eggs....??"
"Haa.... Baby.... Even humans have eggs.... Ab suno.... Toh aapke pass eggs hai.... And hrr month abse kyuki ab aapki body baby paida krne keliye ready horhi hai.... Toh ab se body hrr month egg form kregi....ab egg form hoga toh usko uterus mei rkhna pdega ache se safely hai na.... Kyuki eggs se hi baad mei babies bnte hai.... Toh baby/egg ko safely rkhne keliye aapki body hrr month ek blood and nutrition ke liye ek wall/ghr bnayegi.... Kyuki body ko lgta hai ki kbhi bhi baby aajayega toh uski safety keliye pehle se hi prepared rhti hai.... Pr fir jb aapki body ko realize hoga.... Ki o my god.... Abhi toh hmari bunny khud baby hai voh kaise baby kr skti hai.... Toh aapke body ne jo baby ke safety ke liye jo ghr bnaya tha usko voh tod deta hai.... Ab koi cheez tootegi toh blood toh aayega..... aur kuchh tootta hai toh pain hota hai na...Issiliye aapko yeh blood aarha hai & pain horha hai...."
"Ohh.... Acha.... Aur agr kisi month blood nhi aaya toh....Mtlb mere tummy mei baby hai....??" She asked curiously
"Haa.... Jb sch mei baby Tummy mei aayega.... Aur jbtk baby aapke tummy mei hoga utne time tk aapko periods nhi honge..... "
"Ohh.... Acha...."
“So I’m not dying…?” she whispered.
“No,” Tae assured softly, brushing her tears. “Bilkul nahi.”
She sagged in relief.
“Thank god… warna mujhe laga I have some secret dangerous disease and I only have 20 minutes left…”
“Kookie.”
Tae stared at her.
"Aaj ke baad aise marne jaise gandi baat dubara kbhi mt krna.... You're my strong brave bunny.....hai na....."
She nodded in yes
When Kookie calmed down, Tae stood up.
“Okay, bunny. Ab hum practical cheezein karte hain. First, you need to change. Then I’ll help you with a pad.”
“Pad?” she blinked. “Kaunsa pad? Drawing wala pad? iPad?!”
Tae nearly choked.
“NO—”
He coughed.
“No, bunny. Sanitary pad.”
“Oh…”
Kookie flushed bright red.
“Uhmm… how do I… wear it?”
“It’s simple,” Tae reassured.
Then he called jin and told her everything.... And asked where she kept sanitary pads.... Then jin instructed him and explained him everything properly....
Then He walked to the cabinet and took out a pack as she said
Jin always kept a spare stack in the house for both daughters — Jimin and Kookie.
Kookie stared at the packet like it was a bomb.
“Tete… iska size toh pillow jaisa hai…” she whispered.
“It’s not a pillow,” Tae said, voice shaking with suppressed laughter.
“It’s a pad.”
“Kya ise DIY craft ki tarah fold karke banana padta hai…?”
“Kookie, no.”
“Kya yeh diaper jaisa hai…?”
“Kookie… also no.”
“How do I attach it? Glue se?”
Tae facepalmed.
“Bunny, it literally has a sticker.”
“Oh.”
He handed it to her carefully.
“Okay, listen. I'll stand outside the bathroom door. You do it yourself. I’ll explain step-by-step. But no stress, okay?”
Kookie nodded nervously and walked into the bathroom.
“Tete… close the door! Turn around! No peeking!”
He snorted.
“Kookie, I’m not Hobi. I don't peek.”
Inside the bathroom, she fumbled nervously.
“Tete… yeh chipak nahi raha…”
Her tiny distressed voice made him smile.
“Sticker corner se uthao!” he called.
“Then stick it to the underwear base. Wings ko fold karna niche.”
“Wing?!”
She gasped.
“Tete!! It has WINGS?!! Am I supposed to fly?!”
Tae burst out laughing so loudly he had tears in his eyes.
“No, bunny. It stops leakage.”
“Acha… good… kyuki mujhe upar se girne ka bohot darr lagta hai…”
“Bunny, focus.”
After a few more minutes of chaos, she finally stepped out — shy, cheeks red, but relieved.
“I did it… right?”
Tae beamed.
“Perfectly.”
She puffed proudly.
“I’m big girl now.”
He flicked her forehead gently.
“You’re still my baby bunny.”
2 hrs later, Tae discovered something new.
Periods meant mood swings.
Extreme mood swings.
Kookie sat on the couch eating ice cream straight from the tub.
“Tete…” she sniffed. “am I ugly....? Am I not beautiful?”
“What?!” Tae nearly yelled.
“bunny, never! You're cutest.... Most beautiful bunny I ever saw.... You're my princess....!”
She sniffed again.
“Sachii…?”
“Haan, meri kasam.”
Not even five minutes later—
“Tete…”
Her voice changed.
“Tete I’m bored. Let’s play something!”
“But bunny—”
“NO. LET’S PLAY NOW.”
He blinked
Mood swing #2.
They ended up playing Ludo.
Kookie lost.
And the world ended.
“Nahiiiiiiiii!”
She threw herself back dramatically.
“Tete ne cheating ki! You don’t love me anymore!”
“Bunny, I did NOT cheat—”
“YES YOU DID! Ludo ne bola!! Dice ne bola!! Universe ne bola!!”
“bunny…”
Tae rubbed his temples.
“You’re on your period, not fighting Thanos.”
Suddenly, Kookie clutched her stomach and whimpered.
“Tete… it hurts…”
Tae immediately panicked.
“Where? Kitna? Should we go to hospital???”
“No, no hospital!” she cried, grabbing his sleeve.
He sat beside her instantly.
“Tell me where it hurts, bunny.”
She pointed weakly at her lower abdomen.
“Tete… my stomach is punching me…”
“That’s cramps,” he said softly.
“It’s okay. Main hoon na.”
He lifted her gently, placed her head on his chest, and massaged her back.
Kookie sniffled.
“Tete… can you stay close?”
“Always,” he whispered.
He prepared a hot water bag, brought chocolate, made banana milk, and wrapped her in a fluffy blanket.
When she saw all this, she burst into tears.
“Tete… why are you so nice… you’ll spoil me…”
He kissed her lips gently.
“I already did.”
After some rest, her energy returned.
“Tete… I want Maggi.”
“You just ate ice cream.”
“But now I want Maggi.”
“Okay…”
“And also fries.”
“Bunny—”
“And also strawberry milkshake.”
“…bunny, you're 14, not Hulk.”
“But I’m hungry!!! Aap mere khane peene mei aap nazar lgaoge....?? mai mumma ko bolungi....”
Tae sighed dramatically.
“Fine. Chef Tae will cook.”
She grinned.
“Thank youuu Tete! You’re best husband-brother-bestfriend in world!”
He paused.
“…husband-brother-friend?”
Kookie nodded happily.
"Bunny husband Best friend toh theek hai.... Pr brother.... I'm not your brother...." He grinned
“wait let me explain.... Husband because you’re my family partner. Brother because you take care of me like siblings. Best Friend because I can annoy you anytime!”
Tae smiled softly.
"baby.... Baki sb toh theek hai pr please.... I'm not your brother... I'm your husband bestfriend boyfriend lover.... But not at all your brother...."
Acha ok.... Fine.... You're my best husband and a bestfriend.... Now happy.
Haa.... Now super happy.... Said while kissing her both cheeks gently
In the evening, Tae put on a cartoon movie.
Kookie lay curled into him, clutching her hot water bag.
“Tete…”
“Hm?”
“Will I have periods forever?”
“No. Only for a max 5-6 days every month.”
“A 5-6 DAYS?! EVERY MONTH?!”
Her horrified gasp echoed dramatically through the room.
“Bunny—”
“This is torture!”
She buried her face in his chest.
“Girls deserve awards! Diamonds! Free chocolates! Unlimited holidays!”
Tae burst out laughing.
“You’ll get diamonds when mom dad returns.”
“What about chocolates?”
“I’ll buy them now.”
“And holidays?”
“I’ll tell Principal.”
Kookie sniffed proudly.
“Good. At least someone appreciates me.”
By night, Kookie was exhausted.
Her cramps returned, her mood dropped, and she quietly crawled onto Tae’s lap.
“Tete… I feel… weird…”
He stroked her hair.
“I know, bunny. It’s your first time. But I promise… it will get easier.”
She nodded weakly.
“Tete…”
“Hm?”
“Can I sleep like this tonight…? I feel scared…”
His heart softened instantly.
“Of course.”
He cleaned their room, changed the bedsheet, placed an extra towel under the blanket just in case, and helped her settle into bed.
Kookie held his sleeve tightly.
“Tete… don’t go.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” he whispered.
He lay beside her, not too close, but close enough for her comfort.
Kookie inched forward like a tiny kitten and snuggled against his chest.
“Tete…”
“Hm?”
“Thank you… for taking care of me today…. you're the best”
Tae wrapped an arm around her shoulders — protective, careful, warm.
“Always, bunny. Always.”
Within minutes, she fell asleep.
Tae watched her soft breathing, the faint crease of discomfort on her forehead, the puffiness of her tear-stained eyes.
“My poor little bunny…” he murmured, brushing her hair back.
He stayed awake long after, making sure she slept peacefully.
Kookie woke up late the next morning, groggy but smiling.
Tae was sitting beside her, holding a tray of breakfast.
“Good morning, bunny.”
She rubbed her eyes.
“Tete…”
“Hm?”
“I’m alive.”
He burst out laughing.
“Yes. Congratulations!”
She giggled.
“Thank you for saving me from death.”
Tae leaned forward and flicked her forehead gently.
“Kookie… it was just your period.”
“Still! I almost fainted!”
He smiled warmly.
“Next time, you won’t. Because now you know what it is. And I’ll always be here to help you.”
Kookie grinned, hugging him tightly.
“Tete… you’re the best.... I love you...”
I love you too mera bachcha....
